George Barker
A UK MAB Urban Wildlife Award for Excellence given to George Barker in March 2006 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Urban Wildlife Conservation.

George Barker was one of the founders of the urban wildlife movement. Heworked professionally in nature conservation from the early 1960s until hisretirement in 2001. From the early 1970s he was a leading figure inpromoting and pioneering advances in the urban wildlife movement. Over thecourse of 40 years he made many valuable, significant and innovative contributions which extended our knowledge and understanding and challenged many of the ideas about how people connected to wildlife. He was particularly successful in trying out new ideas and pioneering landmark events and programmes. His work contributed directly to an unparalleled growth in people's participation, interest and involvement in urban wildlife conservation.
