Bradlaugh Fields Local Nature Reserve
Citation
Bradlaugh Fields was given the UK-MAB Urban Wildlife Award for Excellence in 1997.
Description
The 60 hectare Bradlaugh Fields Local Nature Reserve was developed from an old golf course and opened in 1998 to meet local recreational and conservation needs. The site is owned by Northampton Borough Council, and was developed and is managed in partnership with the Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust, the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, the Friends of Bradlaugh Fields and Bradlaugh Barn Association, who together developed a site rich in flora rare in Europe and with one third of the British butterfly species found there.
Activities at the site are a Park Watch scheme with junior section, school projects, creepy crawly club, health walk and green gyms, local community events, after-school clubs and a cafe.
